Svetlana Mitrofanova, BrainRocket’s Talent Development Director and a well-known psychologist, has sat down with us to discuss internal communication tools and corporate ethics in big companies.
1. Could you tell us a bit more about yourself and your role at BrainRocket?
I am a Talent Development Director at BrainRocket, and my role includes dealing with organization-wide talent management and improvement operations. In addition, I carry out routine performance checks and form succession planning programs. To put it in a nutshell, it is all about supporting an equal job opportunity atmosphere and nurturing a healthy structure that helps BrainRocket complete its business targets.
2. How should employees communicate with each other in a big corporation?
As you probably know, all organizations, big or small, need strong internal communication to operate efficiently. Members need to have relevant information to do their jobs properly and tools to interact with management and other colleagues. As with BrainRocket, having colleagues in different offices and even remote workers is another reason to set up a successful internal communication plan. For example, the company needs to ensure that people can access project management tools. More reliable document sharing features, messaging applications, and advocating for more use of videoconferencing. Link this with using fewer emails, going digital, and cooperating with peers, and you will establish a very productive atmosphere. These methods and apps work as popular social networks but are employed by employees to share information with others.
3. What is the best way for employees to successfully work together in a diverse environment?
To operate a diverse company, businesses need to guarantee that they adequately interact with employees. Organizations should set transparent guidelines, policies, safety procedures, and other relevant information that reduce cultural and language boundaries by translating materials and utilizing images and symbols whenever suitable. Moreover, the rules of collaboration within the company are manifested through our corporate culture. With all these rules, we are getting familiarized with new team members in onboarding before they start working in the company. My advice is to set one model of rules for all groups of employees despite their background. Assuring that all employment activities follow these principles to ensure every employee is treated equally. Once the company puts that into effect, employees will successfully collaborate in a diverse workplace.
4. How should employees organize, plan, and prioritize their tasks in their workplace?
I strongly encourage all employees to list on applications such as TodoIst or Notes what they want to perform during their workday. That has proven to be a practical way to remember the tasks, beginning with the more important ones and later including the less important ones. Moreover, set realistic deadlines for each task to avoid focusing on less urgent ones. And most importantly, in this advanced society, plenty of things can distract us from finishing our work. So, employees should put away the things that distract them. That means not checking the inbox each minute, not scrolling through social media, and not texting. Once they give less thought to these things, getting the job done will be considerably smoother.
5. How important is your role at BrainRocket for its business development and growth? In which way do you influence such operations?
I believe that each organization should have a Talent Development Director, as the role actively focuses on recognizing the demands and priorities of the organization and consequently transforming these into positive results. Thus, in short, if such vacancy doesn’t exist in a corporation, then a collection of opportunities to establish a top-notch workplace built around expansion and growth in all aspects would be impossible.
